Faith in Public Life Action Launches National Campaign to Expand Access to Comprehensive Reproductive Health Care
Washington, DC – On Monday, May 13, Faith in Public Life Action announced Liberating Repro Health, a national campaign to protect and expand access to comprehensive reproductive health care. Faith leaders from across religious traditions are committed to protecting comprehensive reproductive health and equity including: abortion, family planning, fertility treatment, miscarriage care, ability to access and use contraception, safe sex education, gender affirming care, hormone therapy and improving maternal health.
Jeanné Lewis, CEO of Faith in Public Life Action, shared the vision behind this campaign:
“We have all seen how faith can be weaponized to limit people’s ability to make complex, nuanced decisions for themselves and their families. The majority of people of faith support access to comprehensive reproductive health care, including miscarriage care, fertility treatment, family planning, the use of contraceptives, abortion care and more. The voices of thoughtful, compassionate and inclusive faith leaders in this work are not only valuable but necessary.
“Faith leaders have an opportunity and a responsibility to lead with compassion and ensure that everyone in our communities has access to the care they need. At Faith in Public Life Action, we are working with a multifaith coalition of faith leaders to advocate for policies that give people the space to discern and the freedom to make the best reproductive health decisions for themselves and their families.”
The campaign priorities include:
At the national level, advocating for the Women’s Health and Protection Act. This legislation is crucial for ensuring comprehensive reproductive health care is protected and accessible for all, aligning with our faith-driven call to care for and protect every individual's health and well-being.
In Florida, we are mobilizing a powerful faith voice to support Amendment 4. Our collective effort is aimed at qualifying and passing this critical amendment, demonstrating our commitment to expanding legal protections for reproductive care and embodying our shared values of freedom and dignity for all.
In Georgia, we are working with partners to pass the Reproductive Freedom Act, a landmark piece of legislation that represents a step forward in ensuring comprehensive reproductive health and equity. As faith leaders, we are united in supporting this act. We will continue to advocate for policies that reflect our collective vision for a society that respects and upholds every individual's right to make informed health care decisions.
In Ohio, our focus is on educating voters about the significant role State Supreme Court judges play in cases related to reproductive care, including the implementation of Issue 1 which passed in November 2023. Through nonpartisan and non-electoral engagement, we aim to ensure that the electorate is informed and that the judges who are committed to upholding reproductive rights are recognized and supported.
