WASHINGTON, D.C. –  Faith in Public Life Action (FPLA) is proud to endorse the Momnibus Act, a key piece of legislation addressing the severe maternal health crisis and increasing comprehensive reproductive health and equity in the United States. The United States has the highest maternal mortality rate among high-income countries, a crisis that disproportionately affects Black women and women of color. The Momnibus Act is designed to tackle this alarming reality by making critical investments in maternal health and comprehensively addressing key factors that impact health.

“The Momnibus Act represents a comprehensive approach to tackling the maternal health crisis in our country. The Act is an important step towards expanding access to the care that mothers need before, during and after pregnancy,” said Jeanné Lewis, CEO of Faith in Public Life Action. “Equity and access to comprehensive maternal care is one way that we treat one another with dignity and improve the health of mothers and their families. . Our faith traditions offer wisdom that can end the maternal health crisis for future generations, and people of faith should be leaders in this conversation. Faith in Public Life Action is proud to support this critical legislation and the leadership of Representatives Underwood and Adams and Senator Booker, who have championed this cause. ”

The endorsement comes ahead of the Black Maternal Health Caucus Stakeholder Summit, scheduled in Joliet, IL, on August 26, 2024. The Summit will serve as a key inflection point in the ongoing fight to pass the Momnibus Act. Hosted by Representatives Lauren Underwood (IL-14) and Alma Adams (NC-12), the event will focus on celebrating progress, advancing legislative priorities, and building partnerships to combat the maternal health crisis.

FPLA applauds the Black Maternal Health Caucus for their tireless efforts and dedication to this important issue, which aligns with our commitment to advancing comprehensive reproductive health and equity for all.
