Rep. Keith Ellison, Faith Leaders Rally for Rights Restoration at Miami Mosque
MIAMI, FL - On Friday, July 27th at 3 p.m., local community groups and faith leaders will join Rep. Keith Ellison, Deputy Chair for the Democratic National Committee, Councilman Basheer Jones, Cleveland’s first Muslim elected official, and Emgage Action for a rally to educate and inform about Amendment 4 on November’s ballot. If passed, this measure would restore voting rights to an estimated 1.4 million Floridians, making this one of the biggest opportunities for voting rights restoration in our lifetimes.
Al-Ansar mosque was the first mosque created in the state of Florida and where Muhammad Ali came when he would train in Miami. Following Ali’s legacy of standing up for justice, this rally will protest the fact that Florida is currently 1 of only 4 states in the country that bars those convicted of felonies from voting for life, even after completing their prison sentences.
